Biography:
Augustine of Scipio, born in Naples (Italy) in 1962, studied at the L'Aquila Conservatory in the early 2004s with the composers Michelangelo Lupone and Mauro Cardi. He was a scholarship holder of the Berlin artist program of the DAAD (05-2014) and many other artist residency programs. His compositions and sound installations are presented worldwide and are internationally recognized as outstanding contributions to current experimental music and sound art. In XNUMX became his unique project Audible Ecosystems in a special issue of the magazine Contemporary Music Review presented. Recordings of Di Scipio's music have appeared on various labels (e.g. Edition RZ, Wergo, Neuma, Die Schachtel, Chrysopée Electronique). Together with Ciro Longobardi he produced a large-scale version of John Cage Electronic Music for Piano (Venice Biennale 2012, published by Stradivarius). With Mario Gabola he founded a duo that makes music with recycled analog circuits (upset, Viande, 2011). Di Scipio has also composed two works for chamber music theatre, Tiresias (with the poet Giuliano Mesa) and Sound & Fury (after various commentaries on Shakespeare's The storm), with poetry recitation and electronics.Agostino Di Scipio was Professor of Electroacoustic Composition at the Conservatory of Naples (2001–13) and now holds the same position at L'Aquila. He was Edgard Varèse Professor at the TU Berlin (2007-08), visiting professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2004), at the Paris Center Creation Musicale Iannis Xenakis (2001-07) and at many other institutions worldwide. He is a member of the doctoral research group Ecologies du Son, Université Paris 8. Di Scipio has conducted extensive research into the history, analysis and criticism of sound and music technologies and is the author of several monographs and numerous shorter essays and articles in international publications. |
