Viola
Biography:
Anna Spina, born in Bern in 1971, studied viola at the music academies in Bern and Zurich. Later she worked on the instrumental theater repertoire with the Greek-French composer Georges Aperghis at the Bern University of the Arts. Anna Spina is a sought-after interpreter of contemporary music and an extremely innovative and versatile violist. Without denying her classical roots, she researches and works in a wide variety of fields: she plays as a member and soloist in the Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain and numerous other ensembles for contemporary music, is interested in microtonal music and spectral music and deepened her knowledge in lessons with the Egyptian violinist Abdou Dagher into the tonal systems of Arabic music. In 2005 she was invited to an intercultural project in Cairo by the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia and in 2008 she was included in a major exchange program with China. Her repertoire includes the important solo and chamber music works of the 20th and 21st centuries as well as works written especially for her. Whenever possible, she develops her interpretations together with the composers, as is the case on this CD.
