Through intensive collaboration with composers such as Gyorgy Kurtag, Henri Dutilleux, Pascal Dusapin, Konstantia Gourzi and Hans Zender developed a great interest in contemporary music. Another focus in the quartet's broad repertoire is the study of works from the Viennese classics under aspects of historical performance practice.
The Athena Quartet was a prizewinner at the Concours de Genéve/International Music Competition and won the International Chamber Music Competition »Joseph Joachim« in Weimar. In addition to regular radio recordings on SWR, BR, WDR, RBB and NDR, the quartet has released two CD recordings, e.g. with works by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Sergej Prokofiev and György Kurtág.
