Biography:

Carin Levine began her studies at the University of Cincinnati and completed them with Aurèle Nicolet at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. She regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician at festivals in Europe, Asia and America (e.g. Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, International Music Festival Phnom Penh, Archipel Festival in Geneva, Biennale di Venezia, Warsaw Autumn, musica viva in Munich and Wien Modern). . Carin Levine has worked on ensemble and orchestral works with conductors such as Ernest Bour, Peter Eötvös, Johannes Kalitzke, Christoph Poppen and Lothar Zagrosek. Numerous radio and television recordings as well as more than 40 CDs document her musical work. To date, Carin Levine has premiered and premiered more than 1000 works. Her search for new developments in music led to close collaborations with composers such as Brian Ferneyhough, Keiko Harada, Toshio Hosokawa, Klaus Huber, Mauricio Kagel, Alvin Lucier, Younghi Pagh-Paan, Giacinto Scelsi and Dieter Schnebel, who dedicated numerous pieces to her have.

Teaching activities and master classes led her to the Darmstadt Summer Courses, to the Rheinsberg Music Academy, the Lower Saxony State Music Academy and to music colleges worldwide. In 2013/14 she supervised the New Music for flute course at the University of Music and Theater in Munich, and in 2015/16 she headed the New Music project for students at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar. She is the editor of the series Contemporary Music for Flute at Bärenreiter-Verlag, which also publishes her two books The Techniques of Flute Playing have appeared. She is the artistic director of the Lower Saxony State Youth Ensemble for New Music.

Carin Levine has been honored with numerous prizes, including the Kranichstein Music Prize for the interpretation of contemporary music. In 2019, the German Composers' Association awarded her the FEM needle for her life's work. In 2022 she was appointed to the board of trustees of Musikfonds eV.
