Biography:
the/yellow/sound is dedicated to today's music in all its aesthetic spectrum. In close contact with composers, experiments are carried out here and the question of contemporary forms of expression is raised. The ensemble was founded in 2020. Recordings for the Bavarian Radio, guest performances at the IMPULS Festival for New Music Saxony-Anhalt, the Days of New Music Bamberg and the Code Modern Festival as well as international cooperations e.g. with the Collegium Novum Zurich show that the / yellow / sound has quickly earned an important place in the ensemble landscape. Pierre-André Valade was already engaged as guest conductor in the debut season. In 2021, several commissioned works will premiere, including compositions by Vykintas Baltakas (Lithuania), Santa Busš (Latvia) and Ville Raasakka (Finland). Four CD projects are planned by 2023 with the labels NEOS and KAIROS.
Direct contact with composers of the younger and youngest generation is fundamentally important to the ensemble. The interpretation of key works of the 20th century is also part of the self-image of the musicians. In addition, cross-genre projects are developed, especially in connection with visual elements. Such an expansion of the concert concept is essential for the new Munich ensemble - this conviction also led to the choice of the name »der/gelbe/klang«, after Wassily Kandinsky's ingenious concept of a holistic »stage composition«.
