Biography:
'The great one ensemble focus« – this is how the Süddeutsche Zeitung recently described one of the most unique and virtuoso new music groups in Europe. After the release of their first CD, a cooperation between Deutschlandradio and NEOS, the young brass quintet followed invitations to the Niedersächsische Musiktage in Hanover and the SWR series »WochenMusik« in the 2018/2019 season to perform works by Richard Ayres and Johannes X. to premiere Schachtner.
The Focus Ensemble presents exciting and challenging works from the contemporary repertoire and works extensively with composers of New Music. In an extended cast, the group also performs works with voice, additional instruments, choreography or electronics. The five founding members perform both as soloists and with some of Europe's leading New Music orchestras and ensembles.
The Focus Ensemble studied in Basel with Mike Svoboda and won the Felix Mendelssohn Prize from the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and the prize from the International Jan Koetsier Competition.
