String Quartet
Biography:
In the beginning, working with Stephan Görner from the Carmina Quartet in Zurich was formative. Later, the ensemble members received scholarships from the European Chamber Music Academy. The fruitful exchange with its artistic director Hatto Beyerle has continued to this day. The quartet had early successes in competitions in Geneva, Osaka, Bordeaux and Florence. Concert tours led throughout Europe (including Wigmore Hall London, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tonhalle Zurich), to India, Japan and Argentina.
The debut CD Landscapes (Sony Classical) received the ECHO KLASSIK 2012 (chamber music recording of the year – 20th / 21st century). In 2013, the quartet was awarded the Canton of Zurich's Culture Promotion Prize. The collaboration with Isabel Mundry and Helmut Lachenmann as well as numerous world premieres of contemporary Swiss music also contribute to the independent profile of the quartet.
The Galatea Quartet has no fear of contact: crossover projects have led to collaborations with Jon Lord (Deep Purple), Tina Turner and writer Urs Faes, as well as a performance series of the Pink Floyd adaptation To the Dark Side of the Moon.
