Biography:
The hr-Sinfonieorchester, one of the most innovative and flexible ensembles in Germany, is celebrating its 2014th birthday in 85. Thanks to its broad stylistic repertoire and its diverse concert and CD activities, the Hessian Radio Symphony Orchestra today enjoys great international renown.
Experiments and discoveries in the field of new and early music and collaboration with top-class conductors and soloists are just as naturally part of his artistic profile as the cross-border Music Discovery Project, participation in the Sir Georg Solti International Conductors' Competition and numerous children's and youth projects. As the first conductor of the orchestra from 1929, Hans Rosbaud set decisive accents in the cultivation of musical tradition and contemporary music.
After the war, Kurt Schröder and Winfried Zillig were initially involved in rebuilding the orchestra and ensuring a wide-ranging repertoire. Under Dean Dixon, Eliahu Inbal, Dmitrij Kitajenko and Hugh Wolff, the ensemble also enjoyed great international success in the decades that followed. From 2006 to 2013 the Estonian Paavo Järvi was chief conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony. As one of the most distinguished conductors of his generation, he also stood for musical diversity and enriched the orchestra with exciting new facets.
Andrés Orozco-Estrada is the designated new chief conductor from the 2014/15 season.
