Biography:
The drummer Jerry Piipponen lives in Helsinki but is originally from Lahti (Finland). After studying at the Manhattan School of Music and the Sibelius Academy, he was a member of the Finnish National Opera Orchestra from 2016 to 2018 before becoming assistant principal drummer with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work as an orchestra musician, Jerry Piipponen is a founding member of the Awake Percussion Quartet and also of the Kaaos Ensemble, which consists of flute, saxophone, guitar and drums. He is also regularly on stage with the ÄÄNI-kollektiivi.
Piipponen is chairman of the Percussion Chamber Music Society and board member of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Besides music and organizational activities, Piipponen is active in several sports and enjoys spending his free time renovating his home, an old veterans' home.
