Biography:
Katrin Frauchiger studied singing with Jakob Stämpfli at the Bern University of the Arts and with Dorothea Brinkmann in Cambridge, USA (soloist diploma) and composition with Michael Jarrell at the Zurich University of the Arts. She received important impulses in numerous master classes (e.g. from Luisa Castellani, Chaya Czernowin, Heinz Holliger, Klaus Huber, Siegfried Palm and Fred Frith).
As a sought-after interpreter of contemporary music and as a soloist with a broad classical repertoire, she appears at international festivals such as IMF Lucerne, Hörgänge Wien, Tonkünstlerfest and Davos Festival as well as in the USA. Katrin Frauchiger has premiered many contemporary works, e.g. by Frangis Ali-Sade, Jürg Wyttenbach, Mischa Käser and Hans Wüthrich. She has sung and given concerts under the direction of Matthias Pintscher, Giuseppe Garbarino and Johannes Schöllhorn. with the Collegium Novum Zürich, Ensemble Modern, BKO, NEC, Ensemble Paul Klee and Freitagsakademie.
Her compositions have been performed in Europe, USA, Argentina and China. In 2004 and 2009 she received composition commissions from the Pro Helvetia Foundation, in 2010 her works were premiered at the Lucerne Festival and in 2017 at the Bern Music Festival. Her musical work is documented by various radio and CD recordings and in 2007 she was awarded the recognition prize of the Canton of Bern. Katrin Frauchiger is a lecturer at the Musikhochschule Luzern.
