Biography:

Kaya Han was born and raised in Japan to Korean parents. From an early age she won several prizes at various piano competitions in Japan and Europe. Kaya Han studied at Toho-gakuen
Music Academy in Tokyo and at the Academy of Music in Freiburg. She received pianistic suggestions from Edith Picht-Axenfeld, Vitaly Margulis and Bruno Leonardo Gelber.

In 1988, Kaya Han won the 44th International Music Competition in Geneva. Piano recitals as well as chamber music and orchestral concerts take her to many European countries, Canada and East Asia. As a soloist or chamber music partner of well-known soloists and ensembles (including Thomas Sanderling, Uli Segal, Nicolas Chumachenco, Arditti Quartet), Kaya Han has performed at internationally renowned festivals. Her repertoire includes works from Bach to the latest music.

In addition to radio and television productions in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Japan, Korea and Canada, there have been numerous CD productions, including works by Johannes Brahms and a recording of piano works by Béla Bartók, Sergej Prokofieff and Isang Yun. In 1995 she founded the ›Duo Conflict‹ with drummer Isao Nakamura, whose latest CD contains works dedicated to the duo. In 2004, Kaya Han was awarded the Japan Critics' Prize. She is a lecturer at the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt and has been a professor at the University of Music in Karlsruhe since 1999.
