Biography:
Klaus Ospald, born in Münster in 1956, first studied composition with Jürgen Ulrich at the Detmold University of Music, then with Berthold Hummel at the Würzburg University of Music, where he completed his studies with a master class diploma.
In 1985 he received a scholarship at the Cité des Arts Paris, and in 1987 the sponsorship award of the state capital of Stuttgart. In the same year he took up additional studies with Helmut Lachenmann. In 1988, the Free State of Bavaria honored his work with the State Prize. In 1997 he was awarded the XXIII. Leonardo da Vinci Award.
Important podiums for contemporary music such as the Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt, the Donaueschinger Musiktage, the Steirischer Herbst Graz, the Bremer Podium, the Wittener Tage for new chamber music or the Munich Biennale brought world premieres of his works. Klaus Ospald lives as a freelance composer in Würzburg.
