Biography:

Manos Tsangaris, born in Düsseldorf in 1956, studied composition and new music theater with Mauricio Kagel and percussion with Christoph Caskel at the Cologne University of Music; Studies with Alfonso Hüppi at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Since 1990 his installations and visual works have been regularly presented by important galleries and museums in Germany and abroad. Since 1986 his poems have appeared in anthologies and in individual publications, e.g. at Thürmchen Verlag in Cologne and Radius-Verlag in Stuttgart.

At the invitation of the Soviet Union of Composers, Manos Tsangaris was Composer in Residence in Moscow in 1991. Grants and awards: Bernd Alois Zimmermann grant from the city of Cologne (1991); Scholarship from the Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart (1993/94); Art prize (music promotion prize) of the Berlin Academy of Arts (1997). From 2002 to 07 Manos Tsangaris was artistic advisor to the directorship of the Cologne Schauspielhaus, in 2002 he taught transdisciplinary composition at Ny Musikk in Oslo and Stavanger (Norway) and in 2003 at the KlangKunstBühne of the University of the Arts in Berlin. In 2004, 2006 and 2008 he was a lecturer at the Darmstadt Summer Courses. Since 2009 he has been a professor of composition at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden and a member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts.
