Biography:
Marco Del Greco, winner of the Tokyo International Guitar Competition, is one of the most important guitarists of his generation. He was born in Rome in 1982 and received his musical training in Carlo Carfagna's class at the »S. Cecilia« in Rome, where he received the diploma with the »menzione d'onore«, the highest distinction. He was subsequently offered a place to study at the renowned Academy of Music in Basel, where he completed a two-year master’s degree in Stephan Schmidt’s class, earning his concert diploma with distinction.
Marco Del Greco has won first prize in the following international competitions: Alirio Diaz, Nicola Fago in Taranto and Città di Lodi, second prize in the Mauro Giuliani Competition in Bari and third prize in the Miami International Guitar Competition. In 2010 he received first prize at the 53rd Tokyo International Guitar Competition, one of the most important guitar competitions in the world. This recognition led to an extensive and very successful concert tour in Japan in late 2011. He has performed in major concert halls around the world: e.g. Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, Bunka Kaikan, Nikkei Hall and Yamaha Hall Ginza in Tokyo, National Center for Performing Arts in Beijing, Grosser Saal Basel, Auditorium Conciliazione in Rome and Drama Theater Kaliningrad. Marco Del Greco is a teacher of guitar at the Conservatory »Fausto Torrefranca« in Vibo Valentia (Italy) and artistic director of the Roma Guitar Festival.
