Biography:
The Italian flutist MARIO CAROLI is one of the most respected solo flutists on the international scene. He was a student of Annamaria Morini and Manuela Wiesler and was awarded the renowned Kranichstein Music Prize in Darmstadt at the age of 22. He appears regularly at the Berlin Philharmonie, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Lincoln Center in New York and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
Under the direction of Boulez, Cambreling, Eötvös, Holliger, Ono, Rophé, he played as a soloist with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, with the German symphony orchestras of WDR and SWR, the national orchestras of Belgium and Iceland, the Tokyo Sinfonietta, the Percussions de Strasbourg and the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart. He plays at numerous festivals: e.g. Salzburg Festival, Ars Musica, Musica, Settembre Musica, Traiettorie, Akiyoshidai.
He received the highest critical acclaim for his extensive discography of around 30 CDs. Mario Caroli holds master classes at Harvard University (FROMM residency), Paris Conservatoire, Sibelius Academy Helsinki, Toho College in Tokyo and at many universities in Europe, North America and Japan. He has a degree in philosophy, lives in Strasbourg and teaches at the conservatory there.
