Biography:

Martin Herchenroeder, composer, organist and scientist, has been a professor of music at the University of Siegen since 1994. His compositions are performed in Europe, Asia and America by orchestras (including the Augsburg Philharmonic, Bowling Green Philharmonia in Ohio / USA, NCPA Orchestra Beijing) and soloists (including Markus Stockhausen, Severin von Eckardstein, Hans Davidsson, Friedrich Gauwerky, Alban Gerhardt, Michael Sanderling, Carin Levine) and chamber music ensembles (eg Arditti Quartet, Ensemble Helios, kiss quartetMinguet Quartet). They have been heard at music festivals such as the MusikTriennale Köln and the Beijing Modern Music Festival and have been released in Europe, China and the USA for radio (e.g. RTHK4 Hong Kong, AVRO Netherlands, BR, DLF, MDR, SWR, WDR) and on CD ( including Albany, Loft, NEOS). Martin Herchenröder wrote commissioned works for soloists, ensembles and orchestras, cities and public institutions (e.g. Evangelical regional churches in Bavaria, in the Rhineland and in Westphalia, Deutsche Telekom, WDR). His concert activities as an organist took him to many European countries, to Canada and to the UNITED STATES. His repertoire focuses on the compositions of J. S. Bach and the modern era (radio and CD recordings, numerous world premieres). His duo partners are Friedrich Gauwerky (violoncello), Markus Stockhausen (trumpet), Carin Levine (flute), Daniel Hees (drawing) and Paulo Álvares (piano). the organ work of György Ligeti, editions, conducting workshops, collaboration on the new edition of the personal section of the encyclopedia Music past and present).Teaching and lectures have taken him to conservatories, music colleges and universities in Germany and abroad (including music colleges in Bremen and Cologne, McGill University in Montreal, University of Chicago, Gothenburg University of Music, Central Chinese Conservatory Beijing, New York University and Juilliard School of Music in New York). In 1998 he worked for one semester as a guest artist at the University of British Columbia / Vancouver (Canada). Since 2008 he has been a visiting professor for composition and organ at the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY, USA), from 2015 to 2016 he worked in the same position at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Martin Herchenröder studied at the Academy of Music from 1982 to 1991 and dance Cologne composition, organ, music theory, school music and church music. His teachers were Ludger Lohmann and Wolfgang Stockmeier (organ), Dieter Gostomsky (composition), Jürg Baur and Hans Werner Henze (composition). At the same time, he studied musicology, German and education at the University of Cologne from 1982 to 1992.
