Biography:

Martyn Brabbins has been Chief Conductor of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra since 2013 and Principal Guest Conductor of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic. He was Artistic Director of the Cheltenham International Festival of Music 2005-07 and Associate Principal Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra 1994-2007. Martyn Brabbins studied composition in London and conducting with Ilya Musin in Leningrad. In 1998 he received first prize in the Leeds competition. He conducts all the major UK symphony orchestras and performs annually at the BBC Proms.

He is a sought-after conductor in Europe, Scandinavia, Australia and Japan and works with orchestras such as: Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, DSO Berlin, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchester de Lyon and Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted several times at the English National Opera, the Opéra de Lyon, the Flemish and Dutch Opera, the Frankfurt and Hamburg Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and in 2013 at the Bavarian State Opera. His extensive discography of over 60 CDs ranges from works from the Romantic period to contemporary music.
