Biography:

The appearances of Mayumi Miyata at international festivals have contributed significantly to the recognition of the traditional Japanese mouth organ shō in Japan and overseas.

Mayumi Miyata studied piano and Japanese court music and has been giving highly acclaimed recitals with works by Japanese and international composers since 1983. A highlight of her career was the opening ceremony of the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, where Mayumi Miyata performed the Japanese national anthem. Tours with the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Czech Philharmonic followed.
