Biography:
Michael Hamel (born 1970 in Amsterdam) began his private studies in composition and orchestra conducting with Huub Kerstens in 1986. He attended master classes with Morton Feldman and John Cage. He graduated from the Royal Conservatory in 1994 in composition (his teachers were Diderik Wagenaar and Konrad Boehmer) and orchestral conducting (with Ed Spanjaard and Jac van Steen). He then attended the composition class at the Tanglewood Music Center (USA), where he studied with Mario Davidovsky and Louis Andriessen.
