Biography:
Nicholas Hodges, born in London in 1970, studied piano with Susan Bradshaw and Sulamita Aronovsky. In addition to the repertoire of the classical, romantic and works of the 20th century, contemporary music is the focus of his concert activities. As a sought-after concert pianist, he has performed with numerous major orchestras (including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, MET Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestras of Tokyo, Los Angeles, Stockholm and Helsinki, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and various radio orchestras in Germany, Great Britain and the Netherlands) - with conductors such as Barenboim, Knussen, Levine, Masson, Nott, Robertson, Rophé, Rundel, Saraste, Slatkin, Valade and Zender.
He is a regular guest at the most important international festivals of new music. Numerous composers have written works for him, including Elliott Carter, Harrison Birtwistle, Wolfgang Rihm, Salvatore Sciarrino and Beat Furrer. In 2007 Aperghis wrote Dans le mur (for piano and tape) for him and in 2004 Hodges performed the first complete version of À Tombeau Ouvert. Nicolas Hodges has been teaching at the Darmstadt Summer Courses since 2000 and has been a professor of piano at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart since 2005.
