Biography:
The New Ensemble Contemporain NEC was founded in 1994 in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland). The 20 regular members of the ensemble come from all over Switzerland and devote themselves to new music with curiosity, conviction and passion.
The NEC soon attracted attention elsewhere due to its performances in Swiss cultural centres. The ensemble has been directed by Pierre-Alain Monot since 1995; it gives concerts with internationally renowned guest conductors and soloists.
The NEC regularly gives world premieres and gains public recognition for its extensive repertoire. The NEC is regularly featured on Swiss radio stations and on France Musique.
Three tours of China (2003, 2007 and 2010) and participation in the International Composition Seminar in Boswil and at the IGNM World Music Days marked the beginning of the ensemble's international recognition.
