Olga Neuwirth

1968 Born on August 4th in Graz (Austria); from the age of seven trumpet lessons
1985-86 studies at the Conservatory of Music, San Francisco and at the Art College (painting and film)
1987-93 composition studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna
1998 Two portrait concerts as part of ›Next Generation‹ at the Salzburg Festival

1999 sponsorship award from the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation in Munich; Hindemith Prize of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival
1999 World premiere of Bählamm's Festival (libretto: Elfriede Jelinek after Leonora Carrington) at the 1999 Vienna Festival; she received the Ernst Krenek Prize for this work
2000 London premiere of her work Clinamen/Nodus, written for Pierre Boulez and the London Symphony Orchestra; worldwide tour and CD

2002 Composer in Residence at the Lucerne Festival
2003 premiere of Lost Highway based on the film of the same name by David Lynch (libretto: Elfriede Jelinek and Olga Neuwirth); was released on a hybrid CD by KAIROS
2004 …ce qui arrive… (lyrics and voice: Paul Auster; with Ensemble Modern and Georgette Dee)
2005 …le temps désenchanté…ou le dialogue aux enfer (sound installation at Place Igor Stravinsky, commissioned by the Center Pompidou and IRCAM/Paris)

2006 Olga Neuwirth is elected a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin
2006 premiere of the trumpet concerto ...miramondo multiplo... for the Vienna Philharmonic and Håkan Hardenberger; Director: Pierre Boulez, Salzburg Festival
2007 US premiere of Lost Highway in NYC and Oberlin, Ohio; Participation in the documenta 12 in Kassel with a sound installation (plus film)
2008 English premiere of Lost Highway, ENO/Young Vic (English National Opera/Young Vic Theatre); Film music for The Father Game by Michael Glawogger
