Orchestra Jakobsplatz Munich

Biography:

The  Orchestra Jakobsplatz Munich was founded in 2005 under the leadership of Daniel Grossmann, today's artistic director, together with young members of the Jewish community in Munich and Upper Bavaria, inspired by the construction of the Jewish Center Jakobsplatz. The orchestra, consisting of Jewish and non-Jewish professional musicians, wants to use the universal language of music to promote dialogue and contribute to a culture of coexistence.

Musicians from 23 countries play in the Orchestra Jakobsplatz Munich. In terms of programming, the ensemble focuses on rarely performed works by Jewish composers, combined with music from the 20th and 21st centuries. century. The orchestra also commissions compositions with a Jewish connection. Since 2007, the Orchestra Jakobsplatz Munich has been performing regularly in a concert cycle in the Hubert Burda Hall of the Jewish Community in Munich.

In addition, the orchestra has taken part in various co-productions with the Bavarian State Theater; in cooperation with the Bavarian State Opera, the scenic performance of the chamber opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis oder Die Todverweigerung by Viktor Ullmann was created. A highlight in the young history of the orchestra was the benefit concert with Anne-Sophie Mutter, which attracted attention far beyond Munich. With the opening of the 9th Jewish Summer Festival in Budapest in 2006, the orchestra successfully expanded its sphere of activity beyond national borders. The Jakobsplatz Munich Orchestra has already worked with renowned soloists, e.g. Anne-Sophie Mutter, Ann-Katrin Naidu, Kevin Conners and Tanja Becker-Bender.
