Biography:

The extraordinary career of Philippe Entremont (born 1934 in Reims, France) began at the age of eighteen when he gained worldwide attention at New York's Carnegie Hall with Jolivet's Piano Concerto and Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1. Since then he has pursued a top international career as a pianist and has also been on the conductor's podium for the past 50 years. Philippe Entremont has performed and recorded under conductors such as Eugene Ormandy, Leopold Stokowski, Fritz Reiner, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa and Pierre Boulez.

He has given over 7000 concerts worldwide, including more than 100 with the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted the largest symphony orchestras in Europe (including the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Göteborgs Symfoniker, Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Orchester national de France), Asia (including the China Philharmonic Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra) and the USA (including Philadelphia Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Houston Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra) and has worked with the most internationally renowned instrumental and vocal soloists. In 1976 the Vienna Chamber Orchestra appointed him Honorary Conductor for life.

In the years 2017 to 2019 he gave concerts in Europe, China, Mexico and the United States. In 2018 he was jury chairman of the International George Enescu Piano Competition in Bucharest (Romania) and founded the Summer Piano Residence in Fontainebleau (France). In November 2019 he took part in the legendary concert hall of La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland). Icologram® on. In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all his concerts in China (piano recital at the NCPA Beijing as part of the "Piano Virtuosos Season" in Shenzhen) and Europe were canceled.

Philippe Entremont has been teaching piano at the Schola Cantorum in Paris since October 2019. He continues to record; his most recent recordings are the two piano quartets by Mozart and a piano recital. Philippe Entremont is an officer in the French Legion of Honor, bearer of the "Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" and Commander of the Order of Merit "Ordre du Mérite". In addition, he was honored with the Grand Decoration of Honor for services to the Republic of Austria.
