(...) The fact that Aperghis is (also) a man of musical theater who can achieve great effects with the smallest of means is strongly felt in this concerto. He uses the big apparatus, he masters it and brings it to bear brilliantly without slipping into wide screen format and allowing himself to be tempted to put the means above the end. The soloist is Theodoro Anzellotti, who is regarded as an accordionist of New Music like no other and who has made a significant contribution to the fact that his instrument has become indispensable in the context of contemporary music.
His accompanist and equal partner is the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Emilio Pomàrico - and both explore, as Aperghis puts it, the question of how the orchestra can become an accordion and vice versa. (...)

(…) Georges Aperghis is one of the most prominent writers of new music. His works are characterized by enormous tonal sensuality, without ever being suspected of appearing sentimental or post-romantic. In the accordion concert, Anzellotti receives additional support from the organ; It sounds related, after all both instruments draw their tones from the air current. And the orchestra always appears as a counterpart in terms of color: with sharp-edged brass or percussive elements. The “Six études” for large orchestra also live from unusual sound alliances, including with the organ. The fact that it is even possible to lead such a traditional apparatus like a symphony orchestra out of the traps of its own sound is merit enough!
