Sangue Inverso—Inverso Sangue (2015-2019) This piece is written for an ensemble of seven musicians. Sangue Inverso exists as well as Inverse Sangue from seven sentences. Sangue Inverso—Inverso Sangue integrates the seven sets of Sangue Inverso and the seven sets of Inverse Sangue. The sets of Sangue Inverso or Inverse Sangue can be performed individually, as in this recording. Sangue Inverso—Inverso Sangue: That means the first sentence of Sangue Inverso should coincide with the first sentence of Inverse Sangue are listed, and so on. Their superimposition, although different tempi are used, sometimes creates moments of mutual coordination and synchronization between them. The main idea of this structure, a construction that is both simple and quite complex, is the relationship between the individual and the collective, or rather the permanence and the role of the individual, whatever their integration into the collective. In any harmonious human construction, overlap and interdependence multiply the significance of each unit, each identity, each idios – without diminishing their validity in any way. In addition to these structural and semantic features Sangue Inverso—Inverso Sangue not least on the central concept of time. The piece deals with time – even if it ultimately connotes eternity – in different ways, such as through the absolute and interpreter-dependent durations of the notes, modulations of and within the tempi, rhythmic contractions and expansions. They all affect perceptions of intertwined progressions, such as those created by—or reflected in—pitch, tempo, timbre, or texture. The titles of the individual movements are just as meaningful as the actual structure of the piece: each bears the name of a symbolic one Elements, which evokes a wealth of references through synesthetic induction – colors and sensations, values and vibrations, ideas and ideals. This CD contains the first three movements of Sangue Inverso—Inverso Sangue, alluding to magnetite, amber, amethyst, granite, obsidian, and cinnabar. In short, the complexity of the musical "cells" and the relationships between the "cells" woven together for the composition are the foundation for a symbolic, semantic and factual significant Construction: new patterns create new paths, new arrays create new adventures... Lysozyme Synthesis (2003) Lysozyme Synthesis is the second part of a cycle whose structure was inspired by the process of protein synthesis. A constant in the construction of the entire piece is complementarity, which expresses itself in different forms, in parameters such as rhythm, dynamics, timbre and pitch. The piece relies on a set of rigorous and stringent compositional principles—perhaps unnoticed at first, but readily apparent in the score—that lend structure and support to its tactile flow. Fluxus, Vortex - Thrust [Acoustic Version] (2018-2019) The entire Fluxus cycle was inspired by the physical phenomena of fluid mechanics. From the piece Flux, Vortex - thrust There are two versions on this CD: the present acoustic version for guitar quartet and a version for guitar quartet and spatialized electronics in a dome-shaped system. A characteristic feature of the acoustic version is that the perceived sounds of the guitars could supposedly emanate from an electronic sound source. The audible fusion between the acoustic and electro-acoustic universes is not just an acoustic device as such: it is the purposeful exploration of a hitherto unexplored potential not only of acoustic instruments, as in this case the guitar, but of a composition per se. The daring to use instruments in an unusual way, in addition to unprecedented results, does indeed produce a new artistic grammar, a new language and thus new meanings... This convergence between two usually separate worlds finds its expression in a thoroughly dynamic way, as a circular flow of a fluid, as a flow, as a vortex of energy, in a word: as one Transformation... The work is dedicated to the Aleph Guitar Quartet. It recorded the piece with the generous support of Musikfonds e. V. together with the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Technology in Karlsruhe. It was created there as part of a residency program between 2018 and 2019. Jaime Rice |
