String Quartet
Biography:
Founded in 1996 by graduates of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, the Quatuor Diotima has become one of the most sought-after ensembles in the world. As a valued partner of many great composers of the late 20th century, the Quatuor Diotima regularly commissions compositions. It is committed to contemporary music, but without allowing itself to be limited by it. In its programmes, it enables a new perspective on the works of the great classics by merging classical with contemporary pieces. The extensive discography of the Quatuor Diotima includes interpretations of the complete works for string quartet of the Second Viennese School (Naïve) and the final version of the Livre pour quatuor by Pierre Boulez (Megadisc). It regularly receives awards from the international press for its CD recordings: five times the Diapason d'Or from the French magazine Diapason (twice as »Best Recording of the Year«), Classica (Best Recording of the Year), Télérama (ffff) , Gramophone (Editor's Choice), The Strad (Selection) and many more.
The Quatuor Diotima has been collaborating with the Naïve label for over ten years and in 2016 introduced the »Collection Quatuor Diotima«, presenting works by the most important composers of our time. In 2019, the quartet recorded works by Rune Glerup, Rebecca Saunders and Tristan Murail for this series. In addition to numerous international performances, the Quatuor Diotima regularly plays at all well-known European festivals and concert series. The University of York invites the Quatuor Diotima to host a series of concerts, chamber music master classes and workshops for composition students each year. The quartet has also been in residence at Radio France since the 2018/2019 season.
Promoted by the DRAC Center and the Région Centre-Val de Loire, the Quatuor Diotima receives regular financial support from SACEM, the Institut Français, Spedidam, the Fonds pour la Création Musicale and Adami, as well as private donors. The Académie Diotima is supported by the Caisse des Dépots et Consignations. The Quatuor Diotima is a member of PROFEDIM. In 2018, the Quatuor Diotima received the European Cultural Heritage Award from the French Ministry of Culture.
