Biography:

RUBEN GAZARIAN, born in Yerevan (Armenia) in 1971, took over the artistic direction of the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn at the beginning of the 2002/2003 concert season. At the age of four, Gazarian received his first violin lessons from his father. This was followed by training at the special music school PI Tchaikovsky and later at the State Conservatory in Yerevan with Rouben Aharonian, the leader of the Borodin Quartet.

Ruben Gazarian began his career as a soloist in 1983. While still a student, he received a special contract as an auditionist and soloist with the Armenian State Chamber Orchestra and at the same time was a violinist in the Armenian Radio and Television State Piano Trio. In 1992, Gazarian continued his violin studies at the University of Music and Theater in Leipzig, graduating in 1995 with the concert exam. In the same year he studied conducting, also at the Leipzig Music Academy, which he completed in 1998 with the highest grade.

After several years (1993-98) as first concertmaster of the West Saxon Symphony Orchestra, Gazarian was elected chief conductor in 1999 and was the youngest chief conductor in Germany at the time. In September 2002, Ruben Gazarian won the 1st International Conducting Competition "Sir Georg Solti" in Frankfurt am Main and began his work as the new chief conductor and artistic director of the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra in Heilbronn. As a guest conductor, Gazarian conducts major orchestras; he gives concerts with many well-known soloists and ensembles.
