Biography:

Salvatore Sciarrino was born in Palermo in 1947. He first started to paint. At the age of twelve he received composition lessons from Antonio Titone, as well as suggestions from Turi Belfiore and Franco Evangelisti. 1966-69 he studied music history at the University of Palermo, then he moved to Rome, where he attended a course in electronic music with Franco Evangelisti at the Accademia di S. Cecilia. 1974-77 Sciarrino taught at the Milan Conservatory, 1977-80 he was artistic director of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, since 1978 he has also taught at the conservatories of Perugia and Florence. Sciarrino, who lives in Città di Castello in Sicily, has received numerous awards, including Luigi Dallapiccola Prize, Gaspar Cassadò Prize, Abbaiati Prize, Italia Radiotre Prize and SIAE Prize.
