under the direction of Marcus Creed
Biography:
When the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart was founded in 1946, the focus was initially on studio productions, because the radio archives had to be rebuilt - a few years later the choir became an important part of public musical life with demanding concerts.
Under the direction of Marinus Voorberg, the ensemble specialized in virtuoso choral music from 1975 to 1981. With its performances, it played an important pioneering role in the emancipation of choral music.
Under the direction of his chief conductor Klaus-Martin Ziegler (1981-1986) and even more consistently under Rupert Huber (1990-2000), the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart has made it its task to help shape the future of vocal music in addition to maintaining the demanding a cappella repertoire. Today, it sees its special mission as being committed to the present with the greatest quality and openness.
Since 2003, Marcus Creed has been the artistic director of the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart, one of the most distinguished conductors on the international scene, who has received numerous awards for his tonally perfect and stylish interpretations. Since then, the international concert activity has expanded to include a cappella music of the 19th century and classical modernism, with an undiminished commitment to the contemporary.
