Sylvia Nopper

soprano

Biography:

Whether rich, beautiful singing or brittle multiphonics - from the mouth of the voice artist Sylvia Nopper sounds both the one and the other absolutely convincing. She sings baroque oratorios just as well and with pleasure as she lets sound scores fresh off the press with her phenomenal creative talent. Her creative curiosity and joy of discovery make her the ideal interpreter of contemporary music. So it is not surprising that most of the now more than 150 works from solo to opera that she premiered were also written for her.

She devoted herself to her second great love, chamber music, with the same dedication. With an enormous wealth of tonal colors and dynamic possibilities, she moves effortlessly through the most diverse styles of the last 500 years. The focus is on the songs of the Romantic period and the 20th century.

She has performed with conductors such as Susanna Mälkki, Heinz Holliger, Jürg Wyttenbach and Pierre Boulez, the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Ensemble intercontemporain Paris, Klangforum Wien, Phoenix Basel, Contrechamps Genève, the Swiss Chamber Soloists and with many renowned orchestras at festivals worldwide. Numerous CD and radio recordings document the inexhaustible passion with which the singer repeatedly faces the challenge of crossing supposed borders and penetrating unknown musical realms, opening up new perspectives and making the impossible possible.

As a lecturer at the Basel Music Academy and the Bern University of the Arts, Sylvia Nopper is very committed to passing on her singing experience.
