Tobias Eduard Schick (*1985 in Upper Swabia) studied composition in Dresden and Rome, among others. with Mark Andre, Ernst Helmuth Flammer and Manos Tsangaris, electronic music and others. with Franz Martin Olbrisch as well as double bass and piano. His compositions have been performed many times in Germany, in other European countries, in the USA, in Canada and in Japan and have been broadcast regularly by radio stations such as Deutschlandfunk Kultur, MDR Kultur, SWR 2 and WDR 3. In 2017 he was awarded a musicological thesis World references in Mathias Spahlinger's music received his doctorate, and in 2020 his first CD with chamber music works was released on the NEOS label. He has received numerous prizes and scholarships, most recently the composition prize from the Plural Ensemble, Madrid, as well as scholarships from the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony or from the Künstlerhof Schreyahn. He was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation and the Cusanuswerk. Texts about music of the 20th and 21st centuries as well as aesthetic issues appear regularly in publication series and magazines such as Music concepts, music & aesthetics, archive for musicology or musiclyrics. He also works as a freelance author for radio stations such as Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Bayerischer Rundfunk and SWR as well as for numerous concert organizers and labels. Schick taught musicology and analysis at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden from 2015 to 2022. Since 2022 he has lived as a freelance composer in Freiburg im Breisgau.
