Biography:

Vinko Globokar, born in Anderny (France) in 1934, lived in Ljubljana (Slovenia) from the age of 13 to 21, where he made his debut as a jazz musician. He then studied trombone at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris (diploma in trombone and chamber music), composition and conducting with René Leibowitz and counterpoint with André Hodeir. He was also a student of Luciano Berio.

Globokar was the soloist in numerous premieres of works for trombone. From 1967 to 1976 he was a professor at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. He is one of the founders of the ›New Phonic Art‹ group for improvisation, which was formed in 1969. From 1973 to 1979 he was head of the instrumental and vocal research department at the Institut de Recherche et de Coordination Acoustique/Musique (Ircam) in Paris. From 1983 to 99 he worked as a teacher and conductor for the music of the 20th century with the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana di Fiesole (Florence). In 2003 he was made an honorary member of the ISCM (IGNM).

Vinko Globokar lives in Paris and Žužemberk (Slovenia).
